What are BTEC
qualifications?
BTEC qualifications are internationally recognised
qualifications accredited by Edexcel - one of the UK's largest awarding
bodies for academic and vocational qualifications. BTEC qualifications are based on
recognised occupational standards and
provide professional recognition of skills and achievement for all
levels of personnel.
Who recognises
these certifications?
BTEC qualifications are widely recognised by education, professional
institutes and many organisations within the public and private
sectors.
Are they
available to anyone?
Yes. They are open to anyone regardless of age, background or
previous qualifications.
Are there any
exams?
No. Instead, an Assessor will visit you
for a series of short assessments. Each assessment lasts about 60–90
minutes. Our Assessors are friendly and supportive. You will also
need to prepare some written work that is submitted to your
Assessor.
Is there a
syllabus?
No. But there is a set of nationally
recognised occupational standards for each certification. To achieve
your certification, your Assessor will need to be sure that you are
meeting these standards.
Which BTEC is
right for me?
It is important to select a
qualification that closely matches your current job role. Our staff will be
happy to advise you and help you choose the right qualification and
level.
Will I have to
attend any training courses?
Not necessarily. But that depends on
the results of an evaluation at the start of the programme. We will
then recommend any specific training that you will need.
What support is
available?
You will be supported by an Assessor
who will visit you on several occasions. Between visits, any queries
may be emailed to Best Practice. We will also provide you with
access to an extensive library of e.learning materials accessible
via our website.
How much work
is required?
Achieving your qualification should not be
onerous. The amount of work will depend on your current skills and
performance. We generally recommend that you invest approximately 60
minutes per week working towards achieving your qualification.
Courses last from 2 to 12 months, depending on
the level.
How will I know
what I have to do?
We will visit you for an ‘Induction’
session. We will give you supporting documentation and explain
exactly what you will need to do.
How long will
it take to achieve the qualification?
That will depend on the level and
breadth of the qualification. BTEC Intermediate Awards may be completed in
1 to 2 months whereas higher levels
may take 9 to 12 months.
How much
written work is there?
There is some written work but this is
not onerous and there are no lengthy essays to complete. Most
candidates will be required to complete a number of short questions
and to write personal statements that describe their activities and
achievements in the workplace. You may also supplement this with
documents from the workplace that provide additional evidence of
your skills and activities.
How will I be
assessed?
We have developed a unique approach
that recognises the pressures of busy staff. We keep written work to
a minimum and will also visit you in the workplace to observe you
and support you..
Where will the
assessments take place?
The Assessor will visit you at your
work location.
How often will
the Assessor visit?
About every four to six weeks, although
this may be more frequent in some cases. Our Assessors are flexible
and will agree convenient dates and times with you in advance.
How many
assessments will I need?
Typically candidates need 3–6
assessments, depending on the level of the qualification. This will be agreed
at the Induction session.
When can I
start?
We can arrange for you to start at any
time that suits you. There are no pre-published dates.
Can we do this
as a group?
Yes. We often work with several
candidates from the same organisation. All the assessments are
undertaken individually, so you can still retain high service
levels.
How much will
it cost and how do I register?
Please contact Best Practice for fees.
To register, please complete the enrolment form and return it to
